At the toy fair in Nuremberg, Nuremberg Playing Card Publishers (NSV) is presenting its first new release of the year for spring. SIDEBOARDS, penned by Hartwig Jakubik and designed by Oliver and Sandra Freudenreich, is a fast-paced card laying game with high replay value – just as you would expect from NSV titles.
The aim of the game is to create a sideboard with a total of eight cards. The aim is to arrange the cards so cleverly that you fulfill the orders on display in the best possible way. The player who collects the most points wins the game at the end.
Who creates the best sideboard?
The gameplay of SIDEBOARDS is quickly explained: select a card from your hand, place a card, pass a card clockwise, draw a card. The individual steps are carried out simultaneously by all players. This keeps the game dynamic from start to finish. When everyone at the table has placed their eighth card, the final scoring takes place.
Each sideboard card has five drawers, each in a different color, and three differently shaped handles. The right combination of these elements is crucial when it comes to completing the three missions.
In the first type of order, the color combination, points are awarded if drawers of one color are arranged in the specified pattern. In the second, the handle combination, you also try to create matching patterns. Here, however, it is based on the position of the handles. The third way to score points is the row combination. Here you try – depending on the order – to create the longest possible straight row of colors or handles within the sideboard. The longer it is, the more chances you have to collect the bonus points that may be decisive in the end.
Fun drawer thinking for up to 6 people
SIDEBOARDS offers varied fun for both occasional and frequent players. The combination of draft mechanism and set collection is quickly internalized, but requires tactical skill and overview during play. With 60 sideboard cards and 30 different order cards, no two games are the same.
On top of that, SIDEBOARDS has a solo mode. This allows you to take on the challenge at any time and chase your personal high score.
The German version of the game has been available in stores since February 2024. As always, instructions in other languages are available in the download area available.
